A paradise for all lovers of nature
Naturist Camping Mas de la Balma
A family naturist campsite in southern France where naturism feels natural.
Naturist campsite Mas de la Balma is located in the Eastern Pyrenees. Close to the border with Spain, it is situated at 350 m above sea level, at the foot of the 'legendary' mountain: the Canigou. A naturist Beach on the Mediterranean Sea is from the camp-site a one hour drive. Here, far away from the hustle, bustle and the noise of the cities life, you will find a beautiful naturist nature reserve. Small mountain streams traverse 62 hectares of mixed forest of oak, chestnut, ash, poplar, alder and hazel trees. You can spend here hours of walking in a nature where naturisme feels natural. Children learn to discover nature and experience how they can enjoy themselves in it. For younger children, the campsite looks like one big playground. There is always a little friend nearby to play with.
La Balma is a paradise for young and old, far away from the hustle and bustle of life in the cities.
The atmosphere at the camp is largely made by the guests. Mas de la Balma naturists comprise a wide variety of ages: young families, families with teenagers, young adults and the elderly. Besides the great diversity in ages, there is a wide variety of nationalities. Our guests come from Catalonia, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, England, Italy, but also Canada, Australia and New Sealand.
Guests of La Balma spontaneously talk to each other, eat, party and enjoy naturism and nature together. The very spacious pitches intensify these paradisiac feelings
The naturist camping site is known for its friendly atmosphere and tranquility.
It is a source of inspiration and relaxation for all nature lovers.
The camping site is a perfect base to make trips to Céret or other beautiful places in the region. Even Spain is not far away. We drove the route through the mountains to Figueras and the view over the Mediterranean is breathtaking. On the camping site joint meals are organized on a regular basis. To judge by the number of people who participate this is an attractive event.
People who are acquainted with us know that we are real hikers, who hardly ever return to a camping site. This year we will visit Mas de la Balma for the seventh time. If you ask us: “Why Mas de la Balma again?”, we can hardly explain that with words. Words do not express that much, pictures and music say more.
Ton and Maril
Vacation in June. For us Mas de la Balma was a real paradise, where we have spent four weeks in without a boring moment. The facilities are austere and simple, but clean. Nature is splendid and has a varied flora and fauna. Because of the ruins the camping site has a medieval atmosphere. We walked through the valley past the Plan d’eau and Le Paradis daily and each time it was a different experience.
Our boys (10 and 12 years of age) came back daily with the most exciting stories and our daughter (15) had built up contacts with other adolescent on the camping site very quickly. During daytime they were sunbathing together near the Plan d’Eau and in the evening they hung out on the prairie, a meadow situated a little bit higher than the tents. What appealed to us on the camping site was the tranquillity, the relaxed atmosphere and the wonderful sociability.
In autumnal Holland (august 8th 2008) and with the heating on we think again how we miss ‘La Balma’ where we have past the last two weeks. Our 10 years old daughter Didi had a wonderful time and so did we as parents. It is difficult to describe it in words; you must have been part of it. At La Balma everything is pure nature: the camping site, the owners, the guests and the scenery. Its power is in the combination.
If you drive in the Eastern Pyrenees from Céret (30 km’s south op Perpignan) to Amélie les Bains and from there on the D618 to Taulis, you will halfway your climb to Taulis see the first signs pointing to Mas de la Balma. By following a winding, but good passable road into the valley you will arrive in a real paradise after a short time.
Mas de la Balma opens on June 20
The government announced on May 28 a possible reopening of campsites from June 2. Today we still do not have the health recommendations which should be communicated to us shortly.
Concerned about the safety of our vacationers and our team, we therefore chose to open the weekend of June 20 because a new assessment must be made on June 22. We hope for a further relaxation of the health recommendations from this date.
Sanitary measures in the campsite:
A health protocol must be presented to us soon. An opening on June 20 will allow us to put in place the necessary measures to welcome you in the best conditions.
Based on the information we have today, here is what we can tell you (announcements to be confirmed by government health recommendations):
The “plan d’eau” – a bypass of one river which forms a the natural pool -- and the other river will be accessible for swimming. The water surface of the “plan d’eau” being very large, will be of no problem regarding keeping social distances between bathers. It will be necessary to respect a social distance of 1m around the bathing places where we have created new relaxation areas.
The bar will be open on the basis of the regulations in France, as well as the grocery store and the bakery service.
The common refrigerator will not be in use.
A protocol will be implemented to ensure the disinfection of sanitary facilities and accommodation.
The entertainment, where possible, will be adapted to respect social distancing. Team sports should not be allowed at first, but other activities are possible (for instance the naturists walking tracks).
The operation of the campsite, access to the various infrastructures, entertainment, etc. will be governed by these health recommendations.
To protect yourself and others, please provide a mask for access to the toilets, grocery store and bar interior.
Hydro-alcoholic gel will be made available at the entrance to each facility.
The rules should become more flexible as the epidemic down regulates.
If you are in need of clean air and lots of nature around you after this long period of lock-down, consider us for your holidays.
We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you this summer.
Best regards,
Monique, Mark et Rachel du Mas de la Balma.

Itinerary for Mas de la Balma, 66110, France
- You leave the toll-road A9 at ‘Le Boulou’ (exit 43).
- Then follow D115, direction Amélie-les-Bains, about 15 km.
- In Amélie-les-Bains on the second roundabout (Leader Price supermarket on the left) follow direction Palalda and Montbolo.
- After passing the narrow bridge turn right, direction Palalda.
- You then follow the D618 in direction Taulis and Saint Marsal for about 10 km.
- You find Mas de la Balma about 2 kms before Taulis on your right hand side.
The entrance to the campsite along the D618 lies between the kilometersigns 58 and 57
ATTENTION!
-
Some navigatie-systems advise you directly after Céret to follow a different road, D15. This is a small and steep road.
-
Sometimes the navigation systems advise a different route at Amélie-les-Bains. That route follows the D53 to Montbolo. It is a steep road with a lot of hairpin curves. From Amélie-les-Bains you then have to climb 300 meters and then after passing the village you have to descend 200 meters to arrive at the D618
-
We advise our guests with caravans or campers not to follow these two routes.. You best follow D115 to Amélie-les-Bains and after that D618 direction Taulis and Saint Marsal.
